Kirsty Landale’s Rekero Diary –
July 2007
It was the Landale family’s first trip to Africa where we spent 3 amazing days at Rekero camp. The migration had not yet started, however we were certainly not disappointed! Our first morning out was an early start but did not stop us from seeing a caracal and having a long look. Later in the day we managed to catch up with the Paradise pride, after lunch at Rekero, our guide John took us out to look for Bella the leopard, after 45 minutes he spotted an Impala kill up a tree and close by was Bella lying in the grass.

In the early evening we found 3 brother cheetahs, which we had also seen the night before who we then decided to name Snap, Crackle and Pop!

The next morning was another early start but didn’t hold us back from seeing another rare sighting, a Serval. We then drove to the top of look out hill and in the distance a black rhino was spotted. We managed to get into a good viewing distance before a delicious breakfast on the banks of the Mara River. Just after breakfast we followed the drag marks of a recent leopard and got a brief sighting of another leopard. On the way back to camp we were lucky enough to spot Snap, Crackle and Pop the cheetah brothers on a kill! With full stomachs they attempted to stalk some impala but this proved to be difficult.
On the Evening drive John wanted to find us the Rongai pride of lions that had not been seen for a long time. After viewing a huge herd of elephants we followed a dry river bed where Ben (Head of the Rongai pride) a large male lion was seen sleeping on the rocks.

Our second day of seeing cheetahs, lions and leopards, not to mention serval, caracal and rhino it had all come to an end and our trip to Rekero was definitely one we will never forget!
